Window Shopping | 30 Things on my New Season Wish List
From in-my-dreams to the more realistic, all very, very covetable...
This time of year is when my real enjoyment for getting dressed kicks up a notch and I start imagining summer outfits and what’s going to be in my suitcase this summer (superficial but sadly true and a bad habit I’ve had since I was at primary school looking forward to a new pair of jelly shoes or tankini). I can actively feel myself metaphorically de-thawing and winding back into action, craving colour and pattern and generally not entirely dressing around my inner thermostat. For weeks I’ve been in a rut of jeans, t-shirt, knit, coat, repeat and just a couple of bright, fresh days have made me remember what my wardrobe is actually capable of. I can get dressed! I do know how to style myself! Maybe I’m not a boring has-been with no imagination after all! All that from just a few non-rainy days in London and the promise of bare-ankle days in my future…. So without further ado, these are some of the things currently re-lighting my fire. I hasten to add the emphasis is very much on the wish part of wish-list but I thought it would be fun to chat through my thought prcoesses and how I’d style stuff along the way too.
Doen | Claire Dress - £434
I’ve previously mentioned my penchant for slime green (those more articulate than me called it chartreuse) and this slinky Doen number is the perfect tone. I like the little frilly strap detail for a bit of a vintage touch to a classic 90s shape.
Flore Flore | Max Tee in Orchid £87
Bright pink isn’t going anywhere from my sartorial psyche and Flore Flore is my ultimate favourite brand for t-shirts and tanks. I honestly can’t get enough of them. Ken would definitely approve.
Lou Lou Studio | Denim Bermuda Shorts £165
Denim cut-offs and I had some good times. Hell, we had some great times. But I fear our time in the sun is over (for now at least) and Bermuda’s are my denim shorts of choice these days. Maybe it’s because they’re working with that 80s breed of prep I’m into right now (see also boat shoes and rugby shirts) or maybe it’s because they work for just about everything from April to September; in London with a blazer, on holiday with a bikini or in Wales with a knitted jumper.
The Row | Suede Moccasins £830
I’m sorry but these are still the best moccasins I’ve found which is VERY annoying I know! But they’re the perfect elongated shape, not too chunky and very very flat which makes them much cooler and easier to wear if you’re on the shorter side like me. Can you tell I’m talking myself into them?
Siedres | Sequin and lace skirt £264
Colour, sparkle and Carrie Bradshaw flirtiness all in one lilac package. I’d really play down the sassiness of this and pair it with a baggy graphic tee, a sweater knotted around the shoulders and loafers.
Milne Watson | Tiger’s Eye Necklace £430
I saw this IRL at a Reluxe pop-up recently and it’s been in my mind’s eye ever since. I’ve been wearing less necklaces lately, relying more on earrings in the winter when the rest of me is covered up but this makes me excited to mix things up. I’m picturing it over a white crewneck t-shirt or on tanned skin with a simple bandeau top on a hot summer’s night.
Dear Frances | Patti bronze mules £380
The ideal mule for everything from summer weddings to dressing up jeans or capri pants (oh yes they’re coming!) on a weekend night out.
Wales Bonner | Pace t-shirt £190
I’m feeling this contrast neck and sleeve detail on tees right now (Flore Flore also do a version without any graphics). Again, it’s got that 80s, nostalgic thing going on reminiscent of Stranger Things, Back to the Future and Tomahawk bikes. A little nod to sportswear feels like it’s everywhere this season and this is the ideal little addition that works with so much of my existing wardrobe.
Samsoe and Samsoe | Waxed jacket £320
Field jackets are having a moment too and this is a really nice option. I think I like this one because it’s not trying too hard and genuienly feels how one of these should; ready to throw on in a genuinely effortless way. So good with a big pair of earrings for something more city too.
