Four times a year, The Decorative Fair opens its doors in South West London for 5 days of wheeling and dealing of the highest calibre. Thrifting this is not but if you’re in the market for something special (there is plenty of bits of small furniture for under £1k and art, decorative bits and lamps for under £500), just want some inspiration or feel like being surrounded by beautiful pieces, it’s always worth a visit. Some of the U.Ks best antiques dealers descend on the fair to showcase their collections and new pieces are added throughout the week. And the best bit is, all of it is up for grabs if you’ve got the space and budget…
I haven’t been able to go for the last few fairs so was determined to get there today, even if only for a couple of hours. I always get inspired and would happily live out my days in some of the oh-so-chic stands. I managed to rush round *mostly* window shopping and snapped a few stand out pieces as I went along.
This very, very handsome Alvar Aalto office chair. Curves in all the right places and perfectly worn. They had a couple of amazing enormous desks too which I drooled over. There was a couple pondering one of them unsure whether ‘it would work in the space’ and I had to do everything I could not to say if you can afford this and have the space for it is is imperative you get it and treasure it forever. But I restrained myself. Seen at Gallery KIY.
This is the desk I was talking about…
This incredible ottoman upholstered in an antique Welsh blanket. The size of it was amazing and the bold colours makes it feel surprisingly modern. Seen at David Bedale.
This gorgeous bronze sculpture of a cut pear I saw at Two Poems was so stunning. I love pieces like this; quirky and a conversation-starter but not in-your-face or attention-seeking.
